1. NEIGHBORHOODS

“Great cities are built upon great neighborhoods”

We will be intentional about investing in Detroit neighborhoods. Our plan includes:

  • Engaging residents in the strategic development plans in their neighborhoods;
  • Creating small business empowerment zones in the neighborhoods;
  • Building 8,000 new quality homes and townhomes, and rehabilitating 2,000 vacant properties instead of demolishing them whenever possible.

My administration will be strategic and intentional in directing public and private resources to revitalizing our neighborhoods, and creating policies that ensure long-terms residents are not displaced, and affordable quality housing is obtainable for all Detroiters.

2. SAFER CITY

The safety of our residents is absolutely critical to building back stronger neighborhoods.  We must increase boots on the ground, use enhanced camera technology, incentivize police officers and firemen to live and work in Detroit, support civic engagement, improve officer equipment and use real data to coordinate our resources wisely. My administration will collaborate with private and public entities to outfit our most crime-ridden areas with CCTV cameras that will allow police to further enhance their efforts of removing the criminal element from our neighborhoods. Many major cities across this country are utilizing technology such as CCTV and other artificial intelligence apparatuses to assist in crime prevention and vehicular traffic control.

3. NO THREE-TIERED TAXES

Detroiters pay three different taxes.  My administration will have a comprehensive plan to reduce high taxes on Detroiters and create an atmosphere for businesses to thrive. No other city in Michigan has a municipal income tax of 2.4% for residents, 1.2% for non-residents that work in Detroit, and 2.0% for corporations.  My administration will reduce the tax burdens on the residents of Detroit by enhancing our small and large business presence, promoting population growth and reducing the need for a municipal income tax across the board.

4. WATER AS A RIGHT, NOT A BURDEN

Detroiters deserve clean water at fair prices.  My administration will collaborate with Federal, State, and County officials, our Detroit businesses and neighborhoods to implement an infrastructure renewal and maintenance plan to prevent dangerous flooding and lower prices for the residents of our city.

5. BUILD SMALL BUSINESSES

Small businesses with roots in the community most often stay in the community. We will create an atmosphere where small businesses can grow, create jobs for Detroiters and serve as a vehicle for both increased neighborhood services and generational wealth.

6. SUPPORT DPSCD

The Mayor of Detroit should not control the school system. However, my administration will ensure that our schools are properly funded and supported while maintaining the highest standards of a quality education.

7. DOING BUSINESS WITH DETROIT

With millions of dollars of commercial contracts available in Detroit, my administration will diversify, educate and support funding for small businesses to qualify to do more business with the City of Detroit.   As technology continues to advance, we will expand on methods for existing businesses to do business more efficiently, including increasing online services and improving in-person customer services Downtown.

8. TRANSPORTATION

Safe, clean and reliable transportation is essential to maintaining and increasing our population.  It is my plan to increase and retain quality operators to enhance our transportation system, including the increased use of advanced technology and improved infrastructure.

9. PROPERLY ASSESS PROPERTY TAX

It’s no secret that some Detroit homeowners continue to receive improperly-assessed property taxes.  We will arm our Assessor’s department with the best technology to assess property correctly, including a requirement that assessors physically review properties and look at the neighborhood as a whole.  A single million-dollar home should not increase the tax value of every home on the block.

10. AI TO ASSIST, NOT REPLACE DETROITERS

A real Leader doesn’t get behind: we get in front!  AI is here to stay, and we need to use it the right way.  As Mayor, Detroit will not be left in the dark. For example, we can use advanced AI technology to improve safety, health and mental care, detect potential water main issues and improve air quality monitoring and control.

BETTER DAYS ARE AHEAD.
